History

History –  In 2002 as part of an Eagle Scout service project, over 400 plants were set in 2002 on land provided by Columbia’s Department of Public Works.  A team of scouts and volunteers from Wild Ones, a wildflower and native plant group, worked with Public Works, Johnny Dropseed, Inc., Rock Post Nursery, and Missouri Wildflower Nursery to select, design, purchase and plant to get the wildflower garden started.   In 2008 AmeriCorps volunteers began reclaiming a periodic drainage area that has become the rain garden portion of the area.

Missouri Master Naturalists joined the team in March 2011 and through this web site share the progress of the garden through the years. Leave a comment on our blog, or, better yet, pause between the two iron bridges on the MKT Trail and enjoy Capen Native Plant garden in person.
